Read an LATimes article on math!
Keep up with the latest stories related to math and science by reading the LA Times. If you come across a story math related, print and read and the article. Then, submit a review.
Be ready to share your summary of the article with the class!
Interview a Mathematician!
Did you know that your teachers are also accomplished in math and science. Make an appointment to interview one of your math or science teachers and submit a write up of the interview. Be sure to have them give you a challenging problem to solve! Submit a summary of your interview, the problem and your solution!

Math challenges online

Check out Visual Patterns!
Do you like patterns and sequences? Pick one of the patterns on the site and predict the 47th figure in the pattern! Print out the pattern and submit it with a write-up of your strategy and solution.


Try your hand at Estimation 180!
Think you're a good guesser? Check out Estimation 180 and complete 3 consecutive days of estimations. Print out each challenge and submit them with a brief explanation of your rational for your estimations.
Predict a What If!
Like to make predictions? Check out this site and find a math-related hypothetical. Print out the What If. Then, submit the solution with a discussion on how you would answer/what confuses you about the solution.
Figure out Which One Doesn't Belong!
Put your detective skills to the test. Choose at least 3 different "Which One Doesn't Belong" problems, print them out and submit a write-up of your answers and explanations.

Visit Daily Desmos!
Find a graph that intrigues you and try to reproduce it on Desmos.com (an awesome online graphing calculator).
Print out the original Daily Desmos challenge, and your Desmos.com page solution. Write a paragraph explaining why you chose this and how you solved it.

Watch a ViHart Video!
Find a video that sparks your math imagination! Watch it. Submit a serious paragraph that cogently expresses your thoughts about the video – what you liked about it, what confused you about it, what inspired you about it. Print out the video page with your write up.

The Game About Squares!
How far can you get in this addicting game?! See what is the highest level you can reach (beyond Level 12). Take a screen shot of 3 of the levels you completed, and discuss your strategy for each of those levels.

The 2048 Game!
Can you get to the 2048 tile? Or beyond?! Take a screen shot when you get to 2048. Submit the photo along with a paragraph explaining your work and strategies. Discuss how many tries it took you to complete!
Euclid: The Game!
Do you love geometry constructions?! Go for a high score on this construction based game! Get to the highest level you can. Take a screen shot of 2 of the levels you found most difficult and submit those photos along with a paragraph explaining how you solved each one.

New York experiences

Visit the Museum of Mathematics!
Did you know that NYC is home to the first ever national museum of mathematics?! Visit the museum, submit a review, and be sure to take photos!
